Lovely Houses is the music of songwriter David Campbell. He was raised and resides in Indianapolis. Growing up, David’s father played jazz and his mother listened to folk music. Somehow, he ended up listening to jazz and writing folk songs. In 2008, he released his first album, Dragon Feet, forming a band that included his father on keyboards. It was a folk-rock/folk-pop oriented record exhibiting thoughtful lyricism and beautiful melodies. Lovely Houses released “If I Get Home”, a single and video this fall with two versions of a full length album to follow. The Darkest Hue is Blue and The Darkest Hue is You, respectively, are a soul-bearing, stripped acoustic record and a full, brass-arranged work. The former sounding like a devastated poet alone with a guitar and the latter, like a man who’s been raised above self-destruction to find beauty in his despair and his soul in his sadness. They pull the listener through the cavernous depths of depression and lost love shining light on the beauty found in darkness.
